| Beskrivelse | Science and design are often seen as opposites. One concerned with facts and rigour, the other with aesthetics and creativity. But what happens when a researcher works right at the intersection of the two?
In this lecture, we explore the field of research-through-design. Using a series of examples, we will look at how this kind of research builds on existing scientific knowledge and what new knowledge it can create in return.
Afterwards we will explore this combination hands-on by working with clay 3D printing using a robotic arm. We will demonstrate how inspiration from biological phenomena can be translated into computer code to finally produce a physical shape with unique aesthetics.
You’ll be able to see the process in action through a live demo of form-finding, exploration and finally printing with the robot arm. By the end, you’ll have a sense of what it means to combine design and science.
